Inspired by Kyoto's Bamboo Groves

Kyoto city is dotted with many beautiful bamboo groves. While Arashiyama may be the most well-known by name, temples and shrines throughout the city also feature many lush & vibrant bamboo forests. Discover these delicate bamboo designs throughout Kohaku-an in its artwork, lighting fixtures, antique cupboards, and more.

Traditional Townhouse Exterior

Kohaku-an showcases all of the quintessential Kyoto townhouse architectural designs. From the wooden 'koshi' lattice that cover the windows and doors, 'ichimonji'roof tiles, to the'inuyarai' bamboo fence that sits in front of the house. As you step through the 'noren' entrance curtain, you'll feel as though you've entered a world away.
